The DEAD GB-1 variable Peak/RMS Compressor/Limiter is a faithful recreation of a 1970’s era FET limiter circuit adapted for the modern 500 series format. The circuit remains true to the clever variable adjustment between Peak and RMS limiting via a “Function” knob. While blending between Peak and RMS detection circuitry the control essentially acts to raise and lower the compression threshold and ratio and thus discernibly altering the attack time. The GB-1 additionally provides the more standard Input, Output, and Release controls as well as the 7 segment Gain Reduction LED meter and Peak/RMS indicator LEDS.

Controls:

Function: This variable control adjusts between Peak limiting and RMS compression, providing for either extreme or a blend of both. The “Function” has the effect of raising and lowering threshold as well as the audible feel of an attack control.

RMS/Peak LEDs: LED indicators provide visualization for which type of limiting is occuring.

Release: Adjusts the release time of compression from .05s (50ms) to 5s. This exact recovery time is calibrated for Peak limiting operation and will result in slightly longer Release times than indicated when Function control is adjusted towards RMS compression.

Output: Controls output attenuation level.

Input: Controls input gain into the compressor circuit establishing the threshold level.

In/Out: Bypasses the input amp section and compressor circuitry. Input and output control and Output amp section are still active and can be used.
